General Drug Testing Information

What is drug testing and how is it used responsibly?
Drug testing is a screening tool used in workplace, clinical, educational, and community settings to promote safety, compliance, and early intervention. Screening devices provide preliminary qualitative results. Presumptive positive results should be confirmed through certified laboratory methods such as GC/MS (Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry) or LC/MS/MS (Liquid Chromatography/Tandem Mass Spectrometry) in accordance with federal guidelines.

Do your products comply with federal workplace testing standards?
Many screening devices align with federally established cutoff thresholds. Regulated programs, including DOT testing, require confirmatory laboratory testing performed by certified laboratories.

What are cutoff levels in drug testing?
Cutoff levels are concentration thresholds used to determine whether a specimen is reported as negative or presumptively positive. These levels are established to promote consistency in regulated testing programs.

Accuracy & Specimen Integrity

What is the difference between screening and confirmatory testing?
Screening tests provide preliminary qualitative results. Confirmatory testing uses advanced laboratory methods such as GC/MS or LC/MS/MS to provide definitive identification.

What are adulterant or specimen validity tests?
Adulterant testing helps detect substances or tampering that could compromise sample validity. Scientific literature documents how certain adulterants may interfere with testing accuracy.

How should drug testing products be stored?
Test devices should be stored according to manufacturer instructions. FDA guidance referencing USP controlled room temperature standards typically allows storage between 15°C and 30°C (59°F to 86°F).
